SolaShe weeps among the clay pots, collecting her brokenness. Garden 2020Some lessons are hard to learn, like planting a garden and tending it correctly.
In these days of groceries on demand, to try and grow one's own food is more a hobby than anything and if we fail, we say "Oh well". But today, I am grieved at the unexpected light frost that has taken a bite of our squash and cucumbers, green beans and potted flowers. Thank goodness we covered the tomatoes and that half of them are still safe in the hothouse - it seems that even these protected few are droopy this morning. We look at each other with sad faces and I fight back tears. "We must get this figured out", I say, as if our lives depend on it. - Even though they don't, yet I believe that one day they will. I imagine that when a nation falls to ruin, its people will eat whatever they can find. I recall the story of a people under siege for such a time that they even ate their children. Oh God, spare us from days such as those. As violence rages in our cities, I selfishly pray for God to save our tiny plants bitten by the frost. Oh God please save the innocent from death from this disease called hate as it ravages our nation. I would gladly lose our whole garden, Lord, if losing it would be the cost of saving the broken, the lost, the desperate and devastated. Oh God, please intervene for the children's sake. Oh God, please intervene. Give us hope in a broken land. Today Brian planted in pots again... Morning writing by Stacey, May 31, 2020
